How to let Claude build widgets on your Mac desktop (MCP)

Turn on Settings › MCP › Allow AI apps to control Kakuchi, then add Kakuchi as an MCP server in your assistant with the command below.

Turn it on in Kakuchi

  1. 1Open Settings › MCP.
  2. 2Turn on Allow AI apps to control Kakuchi.

Claude Code

claude mcp add kakuchi --transport stdio -- "/Applications/Kakuchi.app/Contents/MacOS/Kakuchi" --mcp

Claude Desktop, Cursor and other apps

Add this to the app's MCP settings file (in Claude Desktop: Settings › Developer › Edit Config), then restart the app.

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "kakuchi": {
      "command": "/Applications/Kakuchi.app/Contents/MacOS/Kakuchi",
      "args": ["--mcp"]
    }
  }
}

Codex

codex mcp add kakuchi -- "/Applications/Kakuchi.app/Contents/MacOS/Kakuchi" --mcp

Ask for a widget

Try: "Make a Kakuchi widget that shows my open pull requests and put it on my desktop." The assistant reads Kakuchi's docs, writes the widget, looks at a screenshot of it, fixes what's off and places it.

It can only edit or delete widgets it made itself.

Questions

Do I need MCP to build widgets?
No. Kakuchi has a builder of its own (Settings › AI). MCP is for people who already work in Claude, Codex or Cursor.
