Kakuchi vs WidgetAI

Both apps build a widget from a plain description. WidgetAI does it with its own AI service and a monthly allowance; Kakuchi does it with the AI provider you choose, or a model running on your Mac.

The short version

WidgetAI covers iPhone and iPad as well as the Mac. Kakuchi is Mac only, and goes further on the Mac: the notch, the menu bar, the lock screen, keep on top, and 50+ ready-made widgets.

Pick WidgetAI if you want widgets on your iPhone too and don't want to deal with an AI key.

WidgetAI is an app for iPhone, iPad and Mac where you describe a widget and AI builds it. Its own headline: “Build any widget. Just by asking.”

  • You'd rather pay once than subscribe.
  • You want widgets in the notch, menu bar and lock screen, and on top of full-screen apps.
  • You want Claude, Cursor or another MCP tool to build widgets for you.

Questions

Do I need an AI key for Kakuchi?
Only for the widget builder. The 50+ built-in widgets work without one. For the builder you can use a key you already have, or a free local model through Ollama or LM Studio.
